Insect eaten Sycamore
This is another piece destined for the fire. It had been ravaged by insects (mostly carpenter ants) over time and the result is fantastic. Extremely unique, this makes a bold statement about the natural decay of fallen timber. On pieces such as this, I remove the ‘occupants’ without the use of poisons or pesticides. I bang on the substrate, remove the loose particles, and brush out any remaining tenants. I use linseed oil to preserve the wood. This will be perfect as side table or small coffee table, or wall art. The dimensions are ( 42 1/2 x 21 ave. x 2 9/16 ).
